MIXING+LIVE+SOUND+TECHNIQUE Many people always asked how to do sound mixing for a “live sound”. Is it using speaker or headphone for balancing and sound monitoring? Why we have to using headphone? Why we’re not using a FOH Speaker? FOH speaker’s size is big and it sounds really blast, and when we set it with line array, it can be more blast.Beside that, sound range of it could be wider.!

There are two sounds which we can hear when we do live sound engineering. First, the
sound which out from FOH speaker. Second, the sound which out from its music
instrument. If the room is considerably big, even if we use outdoor stage, then the
sound from FOH speaker will have more domination. If the sounds from FOH speaker not
loudly, there’s nothing special from it. But, if the rooms are smaller or the event
is in indoor, there’s combination between sound from instrument and also from FOH
speaker. Acoustic Mode from its room will have more influence to sound output.

If you do live sound engineering, you must mixing all of sound with sound output
from FOH speaker. I advise you don’t send signal to monitor speaker until FOH sound
has been setting for each instrument. Let the sound engineer get the suit sound in
FOH speaker. If the sounds is OK, we can send signal to monitor speaker that we will
use. With this method, we can reduce our confuseness about sound output combination
from FOH speaker and from Monitor Player Speaker or from the stage, even for small
room and closed room.

Before we do some mixing, we must arrange each channel to make it neat. If we need,
we can write all of instrument type that we will mixing in a piece of paper. You
must give your console with console tape. It is like plester, have a white color,
the size isn’t big enough, it easy to release, and not leave a formertrace when we
release it from console. Don’t ever use a “duck tape” as console tape subtitution.
Duck tape is difficult to release and it will leave a formertrace to console. Don’t
ever use a brown tape, because it easy to tear, difficult to release, and it will
leave a formertrace. It is uses for writing instrument names in each channel. This
technique named labelling. Everyone who look at console must be know about fader on
each channel uses for what. To writing it, use a special permanent boardmarker with
a sharpee head size to make it difficult to erase.
