At previous week when i did a live event report for TV program, i talked to one of guitarist who performed in that event. The most interesting chat topic of course about guitar and its equipments. Until there was my question which answered, “Ah, i’m just a rhythm guitarist, so i think its enough to use this guitar…” For me, it sounds like he set his self to be submissive.
On my opinion, inside of Rock band and other same music genres, rhythm guitarist is the most important and it couldn’t change with other. Because if i consider it as home, the rhythm patterns is the most important pillar. Wanna an example? Imagine if Metallica without James Hetfield! or Megadeth without Dave Mustaine, Scorpions
without Rudolf Schenker. So, that noise music composition could be not interesting. The other examples of it are when Megadeth has a new solo guitarist, but as long as Dave Mustaine there, Megadeth not change more. Metallica stop their recording because James Hetfield take a break (Please check DVD “Some Kind of Monster). And
Metallica waiting for James Hetfield to continue their recording. So, the conclusion is rhythm guitarist role very important for the band. Because guitar rhythm and its sound are the soul of music composition, especially Rock genre.
Don’t ever think that playing guitar rhythm technique is easy than playing a solo notations. If you thing like that, just listening to Master of Puppets song by Metallica. Or you can listening for Lamb of God, Killswitch Engaged, Children of Bodom and the other same music genres. We can’t playing it easily. From local band,

I remember when i did a report to the Scorpions backstage There an interesting scene and ironic, i think. Because i looked with my eyes how complex Rudolf Schenker amplication system, which is a rhythm guitarist. I’m not trying to make lead guitarist position badly here. The role of both guitarist are same. We only have a wrong perception about rhythm guitarist. Rhythm guitarist isn’t a fail lead guitarist. They’re a special persons who look the songs from different side. A good rhythm guitarist is a guitarist who has a high playing accuracy with powerfull technique picking, a proportional and right sound choices, and also a groove which gave a soul to music composition (especially Rock). With rhythm guitarist like that, it could be easier to lead guitarist for playing the lead pattern that he like to do.
The essence of it is the rhythm guitarist has a same role as lead guitaris inside a band. Not less important from bass, drum, lead guitar player and vocalist. So, if you’re a rhythm guitarist, let’s prove that you’re an important person. Study and do anything that makes people heard and enjoyed your rhythm pattern. You need the
coolest guitar, amplication system and many complementer component. Be sure that you playing rhythm guitar because you really love it. Don’t ever think you do that because you can’t playing lead guitar. Be proud because your position same a James Hetfield from Metallica. And it means, “No one can’t change that role…!!”
